There are two narrations (Hadiths) from the Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him), one of them is considered sound and reliable, the other one, even more so. These two Hadiths of the Prophet ?are about Ilm Ul Ghaib (The Information of the Unseen). The unseen, or as we’ll call it, Ul Ghaib, is information regarding things that Allah has told us of its existence, and that’s that. We know that this certain thing or things exists, we know that those certain periods will occur, we know what will lead up to these occurrences, we even have a slight glimpse of when certain things will occur, but we may also not know. It depends on what we’re talking or referring to. When will the end of the world come, according to Islam? We know it will happen. We know that, during the nearing of the end, Jesus (AS) will descend. We know that, Allah will remove, destroy, obliterate everything until all that is left is Allah. We know there will be a war preceding the final hour. But we don’t know when the war will happen. We don’t know when Jesus (AS) will return to us. We don’t know exactly when the final hour will occur. There are variables that we have and know as sound knowledge, and there are other things that Allah has kept from us. Why? Depending on who you ask, that answer if also a part of the Ul Ghaib. Some will tell you, “If Allah tells us everything, then what’s the point of Him?” Allah made it so that we depend on Allah. And this makes sense for Muslims.
Now that we know about the Ul Ghaib (The Unseen Knowledge), let’s return the narrations of the Prophet ?. The narration goes something like this; There is a man who is being dragged into Hell. The Angels are carrying him away to throw him into the Fire and Hell itself will pull back from that person. And Allah will ask Hell, “What is wrong with You that You pull back?” And Hell-Fire will say, “My Lord, He is seeking refuge with you from me. He is seeking refuge in You from me.” Then Allah will say, “Then release my slave, and let Him go free.” There is another account of another person being dragged into Hell, about to be thrown into the Fire, and this person will say to Allah, “My Lord, I never expected this from You.” And Allah will ask the person, “My slave, what did you expect from Me? You did all of this. You committed the sin. You had choices, and you made the mistakes. What did you expect from Me?” And the slave will answer, “I expected that Your mercy could even reach someone like me.” And Allah will say, “Let My slave go free.” See how merciful Allah is? Even at the brink of eternal suffering, pain, and torment, Allah can save anyone of us. This we do know. Do not treat you life as if it’s part of the unseen and whatever happens, happens. There is truth in the saying, “We control our own fate.” We can choose to worship Allah. We can choose to seek his forgiveness. We can choose to seek his blessing in this life and in the next life. Choose wisely.
